Benefits of Using a Marriage and Family Therapist
Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) is a federally recognized mental health licensure rooted in the same psychology that is becoming an increasingly integrated part of mainstream culture. What makes MFT unique is its application of proven therapeutic concepts and methods in a manner that keeps each person's concerns framed within his or her own contexts. My specialized training enables me to understand your own experience as an individual, as well as the dynamics that exist within your relationships. The process is flexible, in that it might involve an individual, couple, or multiple generations.
While individual therapy has been established as an effective way to recover from negative feelings, the process has the potential to reach beyond the individual by having others participate in it. For example, the treatment of seemingly individual issues, such as depression, may be treated within the context of a significant relationship. Including others creates the opportunity to address concerns on multiple levels.
I like to capitalize on the benefits of MFT practices by inviting partners and family members into the therapeutic process whenever possible. As one person finds a path to change it is often advantageous that those changes are made in ways that make sense for others. Each client has the opportunity to make his or her own changes that encourage a new happier way of relating. With this process the therapy has the potential to go more smoothly and quickly, and therefore can be more cost and time effective.
